Realising The Vision

for all of your insights, conversations and thoughts.

We’re excited to begin delivering the vision for Dagenham Heathway, shaped by over 1,120 conversations with more than 900 local residents and businesses. From late 2022 to the end of 2023, your feedback through surveys, workshops, and events helped create this community-driven plan.

Levelling Up Funding was awarded during this time to support improvements to the shopping centre, Millard Terrace housing estate, and the street environment from Church Elm Lane to Reede Road.

THE Timeline

Listen & Understand

Create Together

The first stage in the timeline is where the team embed themselves in the community to engage in conversation with residents. We listen and record the insights from every conversation, helping us understand the unique concerns, hopes, and ideas related to the Heathway. So far, we've run a pop-up outside the station, a stall at the shopping centre Christmas fair, and ideas wall at the library and continue to strike up conversations with local businesses and from our newly open shop. (drop-in on a Thursday for a chat!!)

Celebrate & Share

So once we've captured all the concerns, hopes and ideas for the Heathway, we will analyse them and produce a list of "My Heathway Themes." These may be the identity of the Heathway, shopping on the Heathway, activities for young people etc. We will then ask the community to participate in focus groups where we can turn themes into workable concepts that can provide the foundation for the community vision.

The final stage will be to share the vision that we developed together with the local neighbourhood and get final community backing before finalising the document. We're hoping that this will take the form of a celebration on the Heathway where all those involved can celebrate their ideas and share the vision with their friends and family.

no. 30 now open for your ideas!

We opened a shop with a difference in the Heathway Shopping Centre on the 24th March.

Rather than selling goods or services, our brightly decorated new store will collect ideas, opinions, and aspirations to develop a community vision for Dagenham Heathway.

The shop now features a beautiful mural created by local artist Susanna Wallis, representing insights from the conversations we've had so far. The shop will also provide the base from which we will start running focus groups and workshops throughout May.

So please drop in on a Thursday to give us your views on the mural and share your ideas for the Heathway over a coffee!

My Heathway Mural

Local artist Susanna Wallis has produced a stunning mural that illustrates many of the ideas, concerns, and needs identified from all the conversations we've been having on the Heathway.

"I hope that my work captures just how lively the community is here," she said. "I've attempted to bring to life some of the themes emerging from the community conversation."
